San Cristóbal: Canyon, Viewpoints & Chiapa de Corzo Tour

1.San Cristóbal: Canyon, Viewpoints & Chiapa de Corzo Tour

★★★★★★★★★★4.7 · 231 reviews · 8 - 9 hours · from $85Our pick

From San Cristóbal, travel by air-conditioned minivan to Sumidero Canyon for lookout views and a 1-hour-45-minute shared motorboat ride past crocodiles, monkeys, pelicans, and towering cliffs. Finish in Chiapa de Corzo, then return to Al Grano Café. Spanish and English transport options are available, but boat commentary may be in Spanish.

“The trip itself was great, we fully enjoyed the views and getting to go in the boat through the canyon. We saw some crocs and a monkey too which was really special to see. The only real downside is the Spanish tour guide on the boat. It was a real shame as it meant that we couldn't understand anything he was pointing out during the trip, so that was a bit disappointing. I hadn't been able to find an option to book with an English-speaking guide but if you can (and you don't speak Spanish) then I would suggest you do so. Overall we would definitely recommend this trip.”

Travel from San Cristóbal de las Casas to San Juan Chamula and Zinacantán with an English or Spanish-speaking guide. Visit Chamula’s striking church, meet Tzotzil Maya artisans, watch waist-loom weaving, taste handmade tortillas, coffee, and possibly pox, then browse local textiles.

“The weaving cooperative in Zinacantán was a wonderful experience. They are really talented artists. We enjoyed the fresh tortillas, cheese and bean tacos. The coffee was delicious. Tasting Pox, the local liquor, was fun. The church in Chamula was unlike anything we'd ever seen. Very tranquil and spiritual.”
